A romantic retreat on Penobscot Bay is nearly an island unto itself.

“Twenty years ago, I was part of a musical trio, Cat’s Paw,” says John Oldham. “It’s a sailing term” for a pretty disturbance on the water where the wind kisses a patch of blue. “It was quite the Islesboro gig. One night, we were playing at Grace Cottage when Alex Trebek strode across the lawn. He was quite friendly, and we joked with him.”
