Seeking a robust red, we find Avignonesi Noble de Montepulciano, 2011, $58. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Daily specials\u2013an absolute must here\u2013are lovingly prepared by co-owner and chef German Lucarelli. <i>Carciofi alla Romana<\/i> (Roman-style artichoke, $11) is a rare delicacy deliciously prepared with garlic, parmesan cheese, olive oil, and fresh mint. <i>Frittelle di Fiori di Zucca <\/i>($14)\u2013zucchini blossoms stuffed with taleggio, mozzarella, and anchovies\u2013are fried to perfection. <i>Bellissimo!<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">We enjoy homemade focaccia and ciabatta dipped in extra virgin olive oil flecked with bits of kalamata olives in a stunning sauce. Tender local mussels (<i>Cozze<\/i>, $13) excite with sambuca, lobster bisque, cherry tomatoes, basil, and dill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Next up, <i>Cavatelli <\/i>($21), terrific pasta dumplings made with fresh ricotta and parmesan cheese, with Italian sausage made at Shields, the town butcher, that is braised with garlic, broccolini, basil, and veal stock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Shields also supplies the Berkshire pork<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>belly skin surrounding the <i>Porchetta <\/i>($23), delicious roasted suckling pig seasoned with fresh herbs and fennel seeds, the whole<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>served with <i>patatas al forno <\/i>(roasted potatoes) and roasted vegetables.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">The sweet ending is one fine <i>Tiramisu della Nonna <\/i>($9) with mascarpone and Marsala wine; and <i>Panna Cotta al Frutti della Stagione <\/i>($8), velvety smooth custard served with luscious raspberries and blueberries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Kennebunk\u2019s \u201cPorts\u201d sizzles with the same success enjoyed by the ambitious, creative Calandri at his first endeavor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Ports of Italy, The Kennebunks, 4 Western Ave., Kennebunk.
