It wasn\u2019t until 1988, fifty-five years after Prohibition ended, that <strong>Gritty McDuff\u2019s<\/strong> opened on Portland\u2019s Fore Street as Maine\u2019s second brewery and first brewpub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were only the thirty-third licensed brewery in America,\u201d says <strong>Ed Stebbins<\/strong>, co-founder of Gritty\u2019s. \u201cPeople told us that beer came from Milwaukee in a can. They were like, \u2018Come on, boys.
