{"id":22036,"date":"2022-08-19T11:07:02","date_gmt":"2022-08-19T15:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.portlandmonthly.com\/portmag\/?p=22036"},"modified":"2022-08-19T11:07:02","modified_gmt":"2022-08-19T15:07:02","slug":"point-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portlandmonthly.com\/portmag\/point-break\/","title":{"rendered":"Point Break"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"position:relative;padding-top:max(60%,326px);height:0;width:100%\"><iframe allow=\"clipboard-write\" sandbox=\"allow-top-navigation allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation allow-downloads allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-modals allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"position:absolute;border:none;width:100%;height:100%;left:0;right:0;top:0;bottom:0;\" src=\"https:\/\/e.issuu.com\/embed.html?backgroundColor=%23ededed&#038;d=sept22_flipbook_final&#038;hideIssuuLogo=true&#038;pageNumber=86&#038;u=portlandmagazine\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Bissell Brothers serves up the magic elixir for the music crowds at Thompson\u2019s Point<\/h3>\n<p><strong>BY Jason Singer &amp; Pete Lyons\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>W<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hen <\/span><strong>Noah<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><strong>Peter Bissell<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sought a loan in the early 2010s to turn Noah\u2019s home-brewing passion into a business, the bank turned them down, so they raised half their initial stake from private sources and in 2013 moved into the space on <\/span><strong>Industrial Way<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> previously occupied by <\/span><strong>Maine Beer Company<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bissells gave bartenders and servers around <\/span><strong>Portland<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> free T-shirts with their now-iconic logo, as well as the occasional tasting to drum up excitement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe realized we were part of this sea change of people turning industrial compounds into places to visit and drink and eat,\u201d Peter Bissell says. \u201cWe made an effort to secure a food truck every day we were open.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But with production growing by 200-plus percent per year, \u201cWe said, \u2018We can\u2019t settle in here. There\u2019s no space to grow.\u2019\u201dDevelopers for <\/span><strong>Thompson\u2019s Point<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014still only vacant buildings and a dream\u2014showed them an 112-year-old hub of the <\/span><strong>Maine Central Railroad Company<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It was dilapidated. It had dirt floors.
