Sargent<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ve heard the hype in one version or another: <em>Portland is second only to San Francisco as America\u2019s Foodiest<br \/>\nCity<\/em>. For decades, we\u2019ve heard about the West Coast\u2019s innovations, its smug estate wineries, its smarmy valet parking, its nouvelle-fusion-comfort cuisine.<\/p>\n<p><em>Don\u2019t even think of measuring up, Clam Diggers<\/em>, the message seems to be. <em>You Yankees should know your place<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Now that <em>foie gras<\/em> has been banned in California, the tables seem to have turned. As this issue hits the newsstands, the ban that shook the gourmet world is 45 days and counting.
