These forgotten neighborhoods are like blue highways, but closer.

San Francisco may have its Nob Hill and Barbary Coast, Manhattan its Murray Hill, Tudor City, and Gramercy, but here in Portland and South Portland, a number of sweet old neighborhoods with well-laundered place names guide us to our softer selves. To know them is to love our home better. Not to mention, they’re actually still on the map. Your navigation app will take you there. But they’re also an exhalation from the past, a bit ghostly. Easy to overlook, they’re where the 21st century double-parks its cars with understated charm on tree-lined streets.
