We must have driven past the stone gate marked 60 Ocean Avenue a thousand times across many decades. Each time we were struck by the aspect of this hillock that rolls down to the Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club and the Kennebunk River below. Of course, there’s an imposing home up there today. But what was there before? Perhaps the first use of this lofty perspective was as a Wabanaki encampment, so watchers could be aware of the rhythm of the river’s comings and goings.
