Maybe we should get out of the business of honoring human beings in bronze or pot metal and concentrate on sweet, brave animals as inspirations for statues. Let’s face it, we’re inevitably going to uncover something unsavory at best in a ‘hero’s’ past, if not criminal acts. That’s what makes us human.
