I moved to Portland in the summertime—a classic rookie mistake. The cold of that first winter gave me a shock to the system. Making it worse was the lack of a robust sauna culture in this town. After experiencing a wealth of different sauna and bathing cultures across the world, from Korea to Türkiye to Germany, to me, the dearth of saunas here seemed like a huge missed opportunity.
